KATHMANDU: Martyr’s Day is being celebrated across the country by organizing various programs on Tuesday.
Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) took out a procession on Wednesday morning which passed through major thoroughfares of the city and culminated in a gathering at Martyr’s Memorial in Lainchaur. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and other high-ranking government officials laid wreaths on the memorial and underscored the need to uphold democratic principles to honor the martyrs.
Nepal has been celebrating Martyr’s Day to pay tribute to Shukraraj Shastri, Dharma Bhakta Mathema, Gangalal Shrestha and Dasharath Chand who were executed by the Rana rulers in 1941. The list of martyrs has now grown to more than 13,000.
