ITAHARI: The CPN (Maoist Center) has withdrawn its support from the Hikmati Bahadur Karki-led Koshi Province Government.
A joint meeting of the party’s office-bearers of the Koshi Province Committee and the provincial parliamentary committee held on Tuesday took the decision. The party has already notified the Province Assembly Secretariat about its decision.
“The Maoist Center has decided to withdraw support from the Koshi Province Government. We will now make efforts to form a new government under our leadership,” said Harka Bahadur Nembang, chairperson of the Koshi Province Committee of the Maoist Center.
Nembang further stated that the party has formed a committee to initiate talks for the formation of a new government under its leadership.
After forming a new coalition with the Nepali Congress at the center, the Maoist Center immediately severed its alliance with the CPN-UML to form governments in six other provinces. However, it had maintained its alliance with the UML in Koshi Province thus far.
Earlier, the Maoist Center acknowledged that it was wrong to name the province ‘Koshi Province.’ The party made this decision after pro-identity groups demanded that the province be renamed based on its identity.
