ITAHARI: CPN (Maoist Center) has exited the Koshi Province Government.

Three ministers and one minister of state from the party submitted their resignations to Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki on Friday.

The party, however, has not withdrawn its support from the government.

Maoist Center was facing criticism for not leaving the provincial government despite the formation of a new coalition of CPN-UML and Nepali Congress (NC) at the center. However, Maoist Center’s parliamentary party leader in the Koshi Province Assembly, Indra Angbo, said they stayed in the government at the request of Chief Minister Karki. “This is why we haven’t withdrawn support from his government,” he added.

Ganesh Upreti was serving as the Minister for Physical Infrastructure Development, while Rajendra Karki was the Minister for Health and Narayan Bahadur Magar was the Minister for Tourism, Forest, and Environment. Likewise, Bandanda Jhangad was the Minister of State for Tourism, Forest, and Environment in Karki’s cabinet.

Karki was appointed Chief Minister as per Article 168 (5) of the Constitution of Nepal with the support of 39 assembly members from UML and 13 from NC on May 9.
