KATHMANDU: Police have arrested a man who punched CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli at Leguwa of Dhankuta on Thursday.
Oli, flanked by other senior leaders of the party, reached Leguwa on the day as part of the party’s ‘Sankalpa Yatra’ campaign on the Mid-Hills Highway.
The man has been identified as Mahesh Rai of Mahalaxmi Municipality-5 of Dhankuta. In video clips doing rounds on social media, Rai, who was waiting for his turn to greet Oli, can be seen throwing a punch at the UML Chairman.
UML cadres subsequently manhandled Rai who was later arrested by police.
Pro-identity activists in Koshi Province had earlier threatened to disrupt UML’s campaign.
