Mahat directs OIBN to expedite preparations for Investment Summit

KATHMANDU: Minister for Finance Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat on Friday took stock of the ongoing preparations for the 3rd Nepal Investment Summit scheduled to be held in Kathmandu on April 28 and 29 on Friday.

Speaking at the second meeting of the Nepal Investment Summit Steering Committee, Mahat urged the Office of the Investment Board Nepal (OIBN) to speed up necessary policy, legal, and procedural reforms and project preparation for the summit. Stating that the summit will prioritize foreign investors, non-resident Nepali investors, as well as the domestic private sector, Mahat called on the private sector to identify potential foreign investors and projects, and present concrete suggestions to the steering committee.

The government is organizing the summit in collaboration with the private sector and development partners.

Speaking at the meeting, OIBN CEO Sushil Bhatta made a brief presentation on the preparations made so far.

The government has formed various committees to prepare for the summit. The Steering Committee is chaired by the Finance Minister, while the Chief Secretary chairs the implementation committee, and the industry secretary chairs the technical committee. Likewise, a task force has been formed under the coordination of the Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office (Economic Infrastructure Division) to suggest policy, procedural, and legal reforms.
