KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has emphasized the need to instill confidence in the private sector and promote an investment-friendly environment in the country to attract new investments.

Addressing a meeting at the Office of the Investment Board Nepal on Tuesday, Dahal said that the private sector should be facilitated rather than controlled for development and prosperity. “We need to prepare a new model of development by building trust with the private sector,” Dahal said. “Development is not possible without winning the trust of the private sector.”

Dahal added that the mindset of controlling development is no longer acceptable in today’s world. He instructed officials to bring policies that promote development, as it is the only way to address the aspirations of the people.

Emphasizing the need for everyone to work positively to make the 2024 Nepal Investment Summit successful, Dahal called on officials to showcase concrete and practical projects during the summit rather than just a ‘wish list’. “Let’s present concrete and practical projects. We have amended key laws and regulations which will help boost investment. So we need to present solid and practical plans to send a new message through this summit,” he added.

Highlighting the need to streamline development projects, Dahal acknowledged that although there may be obstacles when trying to do something good, the political leadership must overcome such situations.
