KATHMANDU: Madhesh Province Government has decided to boycott this year’s Secondary Education Examination (SEE) which begins on Thursday.
Speaking at a press meet in Janakpurdham on Tuesday, Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh expressed objections to the process of appointing examination center chiefs.
The province government has claimed that regulations of the National Examination Board (NEB) and directives of the province government have been violated in the appointment of examination center chiefs. “To ensure that the examinations are held in a dignified and credible manner, the Madhesh Province Government had established a clear procedure for appointing center chiefs through a lottery system. The provincial examination management and coordination committee had issued directives to the examination coordination committees under its guidance,” the province government said in a press statement. “However, district examination coordination committees chose to appoint school principals from designated examination centers as center chiefs. The provincial government opposes this decision.”
Officials of the province government say that the lottery system was introduced to ensure fairness, transparency and reliability in the examination process, minimizing the risk of pressure or interference from interest groups.
Chief Minister Singh said this system of promoting irregularities and mismanagement in the examination is unacceptable for the province government. He added that the province government won’t take any insensitive decisions regarding the SEE examination. “We do not wish to disrupt the examination process in any way. The SEE must be conducted in a clean and transparent manner,” Singh added.
