Lu meets Deuba, Dahal

KATHMANDU: US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia, Donald Lu, separately met former Prime Ministers Sher Bahadur Deuba and Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Sunday.

In the meeting with Sher Bahadur Deuba, who is also the president of the Nepali Congress (NC), the two discussed various aspects of bilateral cooperation and contemporary issues. According to Deuba’s Chief Personal Secretary Bhanu Deuba, the talks emphasized mutual interests and ongoing collaborations between Nepal and the United States.

Lu met former Prime Minsiter Dahal, who is also the chairperson of the CPN (Maoist Centre), at the latter’s residence in Khumaltar. During the meeting, Dahal expressed optimism about the outcomes of Lu’s visit, stating that such interactions strengthen the longstanding relationship between Nepal and the US.

Highlighting Nepal’s peace process, Dahal explained that it has progressed through national consensus, avoiding divisions between majorities and minorities or government and opposition.

The US Embassy in Kathmandu has stated that Lu will engage in courtesy meetings with top political leaders and interact with representatives of civil society.
