KATHMANDU: Loan shark victims, who walked to Kathmandu from different districts from the lowlands of Tarai, are protesting on the Bhrikuti Mandap streets.
These victims entered Kathmandu Valley on Thursday evening after a grueling walk of 25 days.
Victims say loan sharks have taken control of their land and property by making them sign different documents while lending them small sums of money. Stating that the government was not taking their demands seriously, the victims from different parts of the country assembled and started the march to Kathmandu Valley.
The government had signed an agreement with loan shark victims in Kathmandu in March last year. As per the five-point agreement, the government had formed a commission under the leadership of former Special Court Chairman Gauri Bahadur Karki. Former AIG of Nepal Police Uttam Bahadur SUbedi and former Deputy Attorney General Ganesh Babu Aryal were the members of the commission.
The commission submitted its report to the government in October.
The victims have demanded that the government implement the recommendations given by the commission, scrap fraudulent agreements that land sharks have prepared without their knowledge, and form a judicial commission to settle the address their demands.
