Lamichhane’s parliamentary position formally suspended

KATHMANDU: The parliamentary position of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane has been formally suspended.

Padam Prasad Pandeya, the general secretary of the Federal Parliament Secretariat, on Monday published a notice regarding his suspension.

“Rabi Lamichhane, member of the House of Representatives elected from Chitwan-2, has been named in a supplementary charge sheet filed at the Kaski District Court on Sunday on cooperative fraud, organized crime and money laundering charges,” the notice read. “Since a letter addressed to the Honorable Speaker, and pursuant to Section 27 of the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2008, which states: ‘If any official or employee of an organization established under prevailing law or any civil servant is detained under this Act, such employee, official or civil servant shall be deemed to have been automatically suspended for the period of such detention and until the case filed against them under Section 22 is settled’, has been received, this notice is published for the purpose of implementing this legal provision.”

RSP earlier named its Vice President DP Aryal as its Acting President. The party will now need to name a new parliamentary party leader as well.
