KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs held a confidential discussion with Inspector General of Nepal Police, Basanta Bahadur Kunwar, regarding the implementation of a commission’s report on gold smuggling.

After receiving the report from the commission, Lamichhane studied it for some time before heading to Baluwatar to meet Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal. Sources suggest Lamichhane briefed PM Dahal about the report during the meeting.

Subsequently, Lamichhane summoned IG Kunwar to his office and engaged in a discussion on the report.

Sources within the Home Ministry indicate that Lamichhane instructed IG Kunwar to implement the recommendations outlined in the commission’s report.

“The Home Minister discussed the commission’s report with IG Kunwar and directed the police to take action accordingly,” a senior police officer informed Himal Press.

Earlier on Thursday, commission chair Dilliraj Acharya handed over the 485-page report to Deputy PM and Home Minister Lamichhane. According to Acharya, the commission gathered statements from 68 individuals, conducted inspections at various customs points, and consulted with over 60 experts to compile the report.

It has been revealed that the commission recommended the government to file cases against all individuals involved in court and initiate departmental actions against government officials implicated.
