Lack of staff brings service delivery at Ajirakot-4 office to a grinding halt

KATHMANDU: Regular services have come to a halt in Ward No. 4 Office of Ajirakot Rural Municipality in Gorkha due to a lack of staff.

Ward Chairperson Janga Bahadur Gurung has issued a public notice stating that various services provided by the ward have been suspended until further notice due to the lack of staff.

“Due to the lack of staff in Ward No. 4 Office in Simjung, all works related to administration, civil registration and social security renewal services being carried out by this office will be stopped until further notice,” the notice issued by Gurung states.

The service delivery from the office was disrupted after the ward secretary went on leave without informing him, Gurung said.

“The Rural Municipality Executive Committee meeting held in the first week of July removed all contractual employees. I have been demanding the reinstatement of the contract employees with the chairperson,” Gurung told Himal Press over the phone. “The ward secretary  also went on leave without informing me.”

The office became devoid of staff as the contract for the agricultural technician and the social mobilizer in Ward No. 4 was not renewed. “I am the only one at the office at present. We only have one veterinary technician who cannot perform other tasks. Even he is not in the office at present,” Gurung added.

Rural Municipality Chairperson Deepak Devkota, on the other hand, said that the current situation has arisen due to a dispute between the ward chairperson and the secretary. “There seems to have been some disagreement between the two,” Devkota said. “The ward secretary has come to the rural municipality office.”

According to Devkota, a staffer has been deputed to the Ward 4 Office so that regular works are not affected.
