ITAHARI: Koshi Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki has said that the upcoming investment summit in the province will be organized by the provincial government, not other organizations.
Speaking at a meeting of the Provincial Assembly’s Good Governance and Planning Committee on Thursday, Karki dismissed reports of controversy surrounding the event.
The Chief Minister’s clarification came after speculation that the summit would be organized by different organizations would lead the summit. Chief Minister Karki, however, said that the province government will collaborate with the private sector to organize the event. “The province government will organize the summit under its banner, not under any other organization. Once preparations are finalized, we will divulge details by organizing a press conference,” Karki said.
Karki also said a former finance minister of Malaysia and a former World Bank CEO have expressed commitment to attend the summit. “Incumbent and former Prime Ministers will also participate in the event. The estimated cost of the event is Rs 33 million,” he added.
Chief Minister Karki said needful consultations have been held with political parties, federal government bodies, parliamentary groups, the Investment Board Nepal, and the National Planning Commission to prepare for the summit.
The Koshi Province Government is planning to host the three-day summit in Biratnagar from January 25.
