ITAHARI: The Koshi Province Government has proposed to spend Rs Rs 36.24 billion in the fiscal year 2023/24 which is nearly Rs 3 billion less than the budget allocated for the current fiscal year.
The province government, which prorogued the budget session of the province assembly after presenting the policies and programs for the new fiscal year on Wednesday, brought the fiscal budget by issuing an ordinance on Thursday. Chief Minister Hikmat Bahadur Karki read the budget for the new fiscal year at a press meeting in the provincial headquarters Biratnagar on Thursday.
Karki’s government has fallen into the minority after CPN (Maoist Center) and Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) withdrew their support to the province government.
According to Chief Minister Karki, the financial progress in the current fiscal year is estimated at around 85%.
The province government has prioritized agriculture and health in the budget for the new fiscal year. Of the total budget, Rs 18.23 billion has been earmarked for capital expenditure and Rs 14.39 billion for recurrent expenditure.
