MUSTANG: Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Khadak Raj Paudel has said that the government aims to develop the Korala Road, part of the Kaligandaki Corridor, into a tourist highway.

Speaking at a discussion at the District Administration Office, Mustang, on Sunday, Paudel said the government plans to upgrade the road stretching from Bhairahawa in the south to the Nepal-China border point in Korala in the north, and transform it into a tourist highway at the earliest.

The Jomsom-Korala Road is the entry point to the popular tourism destination of Mustang – Upper Mustang.

Stating that tourism is a key pillar of economic prosperity, Paudel said the Korala route would be developed and promoted as a major tourism corridor. He added that the government has also placed high priority on the Mustang–Dolpa road project.

During the discussion, representatives of various tourism-related organizations and local entrepreneurs briefed the minister on the opportunities and challenges in the tourism sector in the region.
