KMC to set up cricket nets in schools, produce coaches

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) and the Bagmati Provincial Committee of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) have signed an agreement aimed at advancing grassroots cricket development in KMC.

KMC Mayor Balen Shah said on Friday that KMC intends to set up cricket nets in selected schools and ward offices with technical assistance from the CAN Bagmat.

Mayor Shah and Paras Khadka, the President of the Bagmati Province Committee of CAN and former national team captain, signed the agreement to this end on Friday.

“There are only 25 Level 1-3 cricket coaches in Bagmati Province, which is insufficient considering the existing coach-player ratio. To address this issue, we are launching a Cricket Coach Development Program in collaboration with CAN Bagmati to initiate the ICC Level 0 Cricket Coach Development Program in Kathmandu,” Shah shared in a social media post on Friday.

Under this program, 50 coaches will be trained to subsequently mentor aspiring cricketers in Kathmandu, Shah added.
