KATHMANDU: Chandra Kuber Khapung officially assumed office as the 32nd Inspector General of Nepal Police on Thursday.
Speaking at a ceremony held at Nepal Police headquarters, IGP Khapung directed his subordinates to carry out their responsibilities with a collective spirit and fraternity, while prioritizing the long-term growth, professionalism and reputation of the organization.
Stating that Nepal Police is a key pillar of the criminal justice system in Nepal, Khapung said the police force must play a leading role in crime prevention, investigation, peace and security, traffic management and disaster response through its nationwide network. He urged officers to uphold public trust by demonstrating integrity, respect and discipline.
The Ministry of Home Affairs promoted Khapung to the rank of Inspector General of Nepal Police on August 29. Home Secretary Gokarna Mani Duwadi decorated him with the insignia of office in a special ceremony earlier in the day.
Born in Menchhayayem, Tehrathum, in 1970, Khapung joined the Nepal Police as an Inspector in 1995. He was promoted to Additional Inspector General in April.
Khapung holds a postgraduate degree in gender studies and has completed 14 national and international trainings in crime investigation, law enforcement, and security management.
