ITAHARI: Kedar Karki of Nepali Congress (NC) has been sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Koshi Province.
Chief Minister Parshuram Khapung administered the oath of office and secrecy to Karki amid a ceremony held in the province capital Biratnagar on Sunday.
Two ministers appointed by Karki – Ram Bahadur Rana of CPN-UML and Shamsher Rai of NC – were also administered the oath of office and secrecy. Rana is UML’s deputy leader in the province assembly.
Karki was appointed to the post on Saturday. He made a claim for government formation on Thursday, going against his party’s decision to support Indra Angbo of CPN (Maoist Center), with UML’s support. Karki is close to the anti-establishment faction of NC led by Dr. Shekhar Koirala.
The two ministers, however, haven’t been given any responsibility yet.
