KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Valley received its first rainfall of the winter season on Sunday afternoon.
The rainfall was accompanied by hailstones, thunderstorms, and strong winds in some areas. According to the Weather Forecasting Division, the westerly wind caused the rain.
This marks the first rainfall in the Kathmandu Valley since October 14 of last year, according to the division. Other parts of the country also received rainfall on the same day. Pokhara experienced heavy rainfall with hailstorms, while rainfall was recorded in some areas of Province 1.
Agricultural experts have reported that the lack of rainfall during this winter has negatively impacted several winter crops, increasing the risk of food insecurity in some places.
