Karnali: Chief Minister Sharma taking floor test on Friday

SURKHET: Karnali Province Chief Minister Rajkumar Sharma has decided to take a vote of confidence.

Sharma is taking the floor test on Friday after the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) withdrew its support for his government. Along with RPP, CPN-UML and CPN (Unified Socialist), among others, had supported Sharma to form the province government. He was appointed Chief Minister on January 11.

RPP withdrew its support after the formation of a new coalition at the center.

Sharma is expected to get a vote of confidence from assembly members of Nepali Congress (NC) and other parties of the ruling coalition.

UML, however, hasn’t taken any decision, according to a province minister representing UML. “I am not aware of the Chief Minister’s preparation to undergo the floor test,” the minister said.

Three assembly members of UML are in Sharma’s cabinet. Binod Shah is the Minister for Economic Affairs and Planning, Tekraj Pachhai is the Minister for Social Development and Jit Bahadur Malla is the Minister for Industry, Tourism, Forest and Environment in Sharma’s cabinet.

NC is the largest party in the province assembly with 14 members, followed by Maoist Center with 13 and UML with 10. RPP and Unified Socialist have one member each.
