KATHMANDU: The Judicial Council has recalled High Court Judges Dr Kushi Prasad Tharu and Arjun Maharjan, who recently acquitted former lawmaker Mohammad Aftab Alam in the Rautahat mass murder case. The two judges were posted at the Birgunj Bench of the Janakpur High Court.
A meeting of the Judicial Council held on Thursday took the decision.
The two judges had overturned the Rautahat District Court’s verdict, which had found Alam and three others guilty of burning people alive in a brick kiln following a bomb explosion on the eve of the 2008 Constituent Assembly election, on May 28.
The district court had passed its verdict in April 2024. It had also convicted Alam’s brother Mohammad Mahatab Alam and two others—Shekh Saraj and Badri Sahani.
Alam and three others were arrested by the District Police Office, Rautahat, in 2019.
