JSP Nepal objects to Bhandarilal Ahir’s appointment as minister in Lumbini

KATHMANDU: The Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Nepal has objected to the appointment of Bhandarilal Ahir as a minister in the Lumbini Province Government.

Ahir was sworn in as the Minister for Internal Affairs and Law from the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP), a party formed after splitting from JSP Nepal, earlier on Monday.

JSP Nepal’s objection came after Chief Minister Acharya inducted Ahir in his cabinet, even though the Supreme Court had already declared the JSP Nepal invalid.

Ahir took the oath of office as Minister for Internal Affairs and Law on Monday.

JSP Nepal Spokesperson Manish Suman accused the Chief Minister of disregarding basic political ethics and democratic values by appointing Ahir as minister from JSP Nepal.

Suman said JSP Nepal had informed the Lumbini Provincial Assembly of the JSP’s legal status immediately after the court’s ruling. “The appointment not only makes a mockery of the rule of law but is also a blatant attack on democracy and an extreme abuse of power,” Suman said in a statement. “The Chief Minister’s action is highly undemocratic, unconstitutional and politically reprehensible. We strongly condemn it.”

JSP Nepal has also demanded Ahir’s immediate dismissal from the ministerial post.

The party has also warned that it will be compelled to pursue legal action if he is not removed from office without delay.
