KATHMANDU: The Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Nepal has expelled four of its lawmakers in the Lumbini Province Assembly and one in the Koshi Province Assembly from the party.
A meeting of the party’s Central Executive Committee, which has been underway in Kathmandu for the past three days, decided to take disciplinary action against them for acting against the party’s policies, principles, statute, decisions and directives.
JSP Nepal General Secretary Dr Surendra Jha said Santosh Pandey, elected to the Lumbini Province Assembly from Rupandehi-3(A), Bhandarilal Ahir, elected from Banke-2(A) and Kumar Agrawal, elected from Banke-2(B), as well as proportional representation (PR) lawmaker Hema Belbase had been expelled from the party, stripping them of even general membership of the party.
Jha added that the four were expelled after they voted in favor of Chet Narayan Acharya’s motion of confidence and also joined the provincial government by defying the party’s directives and decisions.
The JSP Nepal meeting also expelled Nirmala Tawa, a proportional representation member of the Koshi Provincial Assembly.
The party has also taken disciplinary action against leaders and cadres from various local governments who acted against party discipline. They include Ram Chalittar Mahato, deputy mayor of Lahan Municipality in Siraha, who was elected from the party.
Meanwhile, the meeting also decided to provide Rs 2.1 million to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund to support relief and rescue efforts for the Bhotekoshi flood victims.
According to Jha, the meeting unanimously welcomed the formation of the Progressive Front.
The meeting also decided to convene a meeting of the Central Executive Committee in Kathmandu from September 30 to October 2..
