Itahari to buy health insurance cover for 2,000 disadvantaged families

ITAHARI: The Itahari Sub-metropolitan City has decided to provide free health insurance cover to 2,000 disadvantaged families.

The sub-metropolitan city will pay the premium to enroll these families in the National Health Insurance Program implemented by the government. This decision aligns with the sub-metropolitan city’s policy to increase people’s access to health services, according to Mayor Hemkarna Poudel.

The program has initially selected 90 disadvantaged families for the program.

“We have decided to enroll disadvantaged families, who cannot access health services, in the government’s health insurance program by paying their premium. Such families have to approach the sub-metropolis office with a recommendation letter from their respective office,” Mayor Poudel said.

Although the government introduced the health insurance program to increase people’s access to health services, many disadvantaged families have not been able to benefit from the program. Poudel further added that single women, Dalit families, people with disabilities, and other disadvantaged families will benefit from the program.

The sub-metropolis will pay Rs 3,500 for a family of five as an insurance premium.
