ITAHARI: It has been found that invigilators at Bhagwati Secondary School in Inaruwa, Sunsari, used a WhatsApp group to facilitate cheating during the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) on Sunday.

An inspection team led by Sunsari Chief District Officer (CDO) Dharmendra Mishra discovered the malpractice during the Compulsory Mathematics examination.

Mishra informed Himal Press that three invigilators involved in creating the WhatsApp group for cheating have been taken into custody.

Despite strict instructions to prohibit mobile phones in the examination hall, the invigilators themselves were found engaging in facilitating students through the use of mobile phones.

The detained teachers have been identified as Mukendra Yadav from Rastriya Secondary School, Ramananda Yadav from Bhagwati Secondary School, and Dinesh Prasad Yadav from BP Basic School, according to SP Suman Timsina of the District Police Office, Sunsari. “Investigation into the incident is underway,” he added.

According to Timsina, the invigilators allegedly created a WhatsApp group to share exam questions externally, receive answers, and then relay them to students.

In a separate incident, two invigilators from Babiya Secondary School in Inaruwa have been expelled for unauthorized activities. Earlier, on Thursday, two invigilators each from Saraswati Secondary School in Duhabi and Saraswati Secondary School in Gadhi were also expelled for similar misconduct.

Preliminary investigations reveal that invigilators in Sunsari are often lured by financial incentives from private school operators.

A total of 13,573 students are appearing for the SEE exams across 50 examination centers in the district.
