SURKHET: Police have arrested four individuals for an investigation into a shooting incident at Gairi Chowk on Saturday night.

According to the District Police Office, Surkhet, an unidentified group opened fire at Gauritol in Birendranagar Municipality-9 at 9:20 pm on Saturday. Police say the shots were fired targeting the car of a local construction entrepreneur named Binod Giri.

Police have identified the assailants as Indra BK (18) and Bharatpurali Bhul (18) of Gauriganga Municipality-2 in Kailali, Rajan Giri (37) of Birendranagar-4, and Rohit Rajput (19) of Bijnaur district in India’s Uttar Pradesh state. “Three of them, except Giri, came from Nepalgunj and had been staying at Hotel Ganesh since February 19. Rajan Giri reportedly showed the three around Binod Giri’s house and arranged accommodations for them,” Superintendent of Police Rupesh Khadka said.

The assailants had followed Binod Giri’s car on a motorcycle on Saturday evening and fired a shot when the car reached Gairi Chowk. The bike collided with the car after the shot was fired.

Construction entrepreneur Binod Giri told police that he was targeted in a preplanned manner. “The assailants were on a motorcycle. They overtook my car and opened fire. The bullet fortunately missed me,” he said. “Police could arrest them as I hit their motorcycle with my car.”
