KATHMANDU: Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is scheduled to arrive in Kathmandu for a two-day visit on January 4.
Minister Jaishankar will lead the Indian delegation in the 7th meeting of the Nepal-India Joint Commission, the apex bilateral mechanism between the two nations. Indian Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra, Anurag Srivastava, Nepal desk chief at the Indian External Affairs Ministry, and various other high-ranking officials will be in the delegation.
The Nepali delegation will be led by Minister for Foreign Affairs NP Saud.
The two sides are expected to sign a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) which will pave the way for India to purchase of 10,000 MW of hydropower from Nepal over the next decade. The two sides are also expected to sign an agreement for increasing funds for High-impact Community Development Projects (HICDPs) in Nepal.
Meanwhile, Minister Saud held a discussion with former foreign minister Dr Bhesh Bahadur Thapa, former foreign secretaries and a former ambassador of Nepal to India ahead of Nepal-India Joint Commission meeting. During the meeting, former foreign minister Dr Thapa, former foreign secretaries Madhuraman Acharya, Arjun Thapa, Durga Bhattarai, Bharat Poudel and former Nepalese ambassador to India Durgesh Man Singh, among others, provided suggestions on various topics relating to Nepal-India relations, according to PTI news agency.
