Indian army chief Seth conferred honorary rank of general of Nepali Army

KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel has conferred the honorary rank of General of the Nepali Army on the Indian Army Chief, Dhiraj Seth.

President Paudel presented the honorary rank of General to Indian Army Chief Seth at an investiture ceremony held at the Office of the President on Monday.

Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav, Minister for Foreign Affairs Shishir Khanal, high-ranking officials from the Government of Nepal and the Nepali Army, as well as the Indian Ambassador to Nepal, were present at the ceremony.

Seth arrived in Nepal on Sunday afternoon for a three-day official visit.

Nepal and India have been maintaining a tradition of conferring the honorary rank of General on each other’s army chiefs since 1950. General KM Cariappa of India was the first recipient of the honorary rank from Nepal.

Similarly, General Surendra Bahadur Shah was the first Chief of the Nepali Army to receive the honorary rank of General from the Indian Army.

Nepali Army Chief General Ashok Raj Sigdel was conferred the rank of General of the Indian Army on December 12, 2024.
