KATHMANDU: Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Prakash Jwala, has said that Indian security forces are causing hindrances in the construction of Hulaki Rajmarga.
Speaking at the meeting of the Delegated Legislation Management and Government Assurance Committee on Sunday, Jwala said that personnel of India’s border security force, the Seema Surkasha Bal (SSB), are obstructing blacktopping works on Hulaki Rajmarga in the Belaurei area of Kanchanpur. “There are some border-related issues in that area. We have undertaken necessary correspondences to resolve the issue, but obstruction persists,” he added.
Hulaki Rajmarga, widely regarded as a game-changing project for the Tarai lowlands of Nepal, connects 21 districts of southern Nepal stretching from Jhapa in the east to Kanchanpur in the west.
Members of the committee conducted a site visit to the Belauri area a few days ago and invited Minister Jwala to provide details about the government’s initiatives to resolve the issue.
“We have requested the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for necessary facilitation in this regard,” Jwala said. “The blacktopping work will gain momentum once the issue is resolved.”
Ajaya Kumar Mul, director of the Hulaki Rajmarga Project Directorate, mentioned that work on Hulaki Rajmarga is progressing by dividing the road in Kanchanpur into three sections of 20 km each. “Of the three sections, physical progress in one section stands at 96%. Work on the 1,400-meter part of the second section, from Belauri to Khapati Khola, has been affected due to border issues,” he added.
