KATHMANDU: The death toll from an avalanche on Himlung Himal in Manang has risen to 15 after rescue workers recovered eight more bodies on Thursday.
According to Assistant Chief District Officer of Manang, Krishna Prasad Paudel, the rescue team from the Nepal National Mountain Guides Association (NNMGA) recovered four bodies on Thursday morning and another four in the afternoon.
The identity of the bodies recovered on Thursday has not been established.
Three bodies were recovered on Wednesday. The bodies recovered on Wednesday were identified as those of Ash Gurung, Suraj Rai and Kalam Budha.
Likewise, two bodies each were recovered on Sunday and Monday. The bodies recovered on Monday were identified as those of Birendra Gurung and Ghanshyam Rai, while the bodies of Chhebi Bhote and Pasang Bhote were recovered on Sunday.
Paudel said one individual is still unaccounted for.
A total of 22 had gone missing when an avalanche hit Himlung Himal in the Nar-Phu region of Manang on Sunday morning. Six had later come into contact, according to the local administration of Manang.
The search and rescue operation for the missing person is ongoing in the avalanche-hit area. IFMGA mountain guides Pasang Kaji Sherpa and Bikram Karki are leading the operation with the support of five experienced climbing guides, according to the NNMGA.
