ITAHARI: CPN-UML’s Hikmat Bahadur Karki is set to become the new Chief Minister of Province 1 Government.
Karki, who is the parliamentary party leader of UMl in the Province 1 Assembly, Sunday made a claim to government formation in Province 1. He has secured the support of 60 assembly members – 40 of UML, 13 of CPN (Maoist Center), six of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and one of Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP).
After a meeting held on Sunday, the ruling coalition at the center decided to form a government in Province 1 under UML’s leadership.
Parliamentary party leader of Maoist Center Indra Bahadur Angbo is Karki’s proposer, while Bhakti Prasad Sitaula RPP and Nirmala Limbu of JSP are the seconders.
Parties need the support of 47 lawmakers to form government in the 93-member Province 1 Assembly.
Province Chief of Province 1 Parshuram Khapung had given parties until Sunday to make a claim for the government formation as per Article 168 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal, 2015.
