DHANGADHI: Continuous rainfall since Sunday night has inundated several parts of Dhangadhi, including the main market area and surrounding neighbourhoods.

The worst-affected areas include Bishalnagar, Milan Chowk, Shivanagar, Hasanpur, Campus Road, Malika Tol, Krishnanagar, Purano Bhansar and the southern settlement of Katan village. Most shops in these areas have also been submerged.

Heavy rains have overwhelmed roads and drains, making it difficult for pedestrians to move around. Locals say that poor drainage systems and outdated infrastructure lead to flooding in the area every monsoon. Encroachment of traditional water channels has worsened the situation, they added.

Shivraj Joshi, a local, pointed out that roads are often blacktopped without proper drainage planning which causes flooding in residential areas.

Dhangadhi Ward -2 Chairperson Dharmaraj Ojha also said that the destruction of old streams and water outlets has made the flooding problem recurrent.

The District Police Office, Kailali, has said that no human casualties or major property damage have been reported so far.
