Heavy rain forecast for 56 districts

KATHMANDU: The Weather Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast heavy rainfall in 56 districts from Thursday to Sunday.

Issuing a statement on Wednesday, the division said there is a chance of heavy rainfall across the country due to monsoon winds, moisture-laden air flowing from the Bay of Bengal and the impact of a low-pressure system in the region. “Thunderstorms and lightning are expected to accompany the rainfall. There is also a possibility of windstorms in some areas of the Tarai region,” it added.

The division has warned that the rainfall could increase the risk of erosion, floods, landslides and debris flow. “As monsoon rains are more likely to occur at night, there is a higher risk of flooding in urban and Tarai areas,” the division said, urging people to take necessary precautions.

The heavy rainfall is also expected to affect road and air transportation.
