KATHMANDU: The Meteorological Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has issued a warning about the possibility of an extreme heat wave in the Tarai regions of Nepal in the coming days.

Issuing an advisory on Monday, the division said temperatures in most parts of the country have been rising gradually over the past few days. “In some areas of Lumbini and Madhesh provinces, as well as a few locations in the Tarai region of Sudurpaschim Province, the maximum temperature has already reached 40 degrees Celsius or higher over the past one to two days,” it said. “Based on the temperature analysis for the upcoming days, there is a high likelihood of extreme heat in the Tarai regions.”

The division has advised the public to take necessary precautions and make needful preparations accordingly. “For the next five days, from April 22 to April 26, there is a possibility of hot winds and heat waves in the Tarai areas. People are advised to take necessary precautions to protect themselves from the potential impacts,” it added in the statement.
