KATHMANDU: The Parliamentary Hearing Committee has unanimously endorsed the recommendation of Bharat Raj Paudyal as Nepal’s ambassador to Canada.
Paudyal is the incumbent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Earlier, the committee had invited the general public to submit complaints against Paudyal. The committee received a few complaints. In one of the complaints, he was accused of sending his daughter on a scholarship meant for staffers of the foreign ministry. When members of the committee sought his response to the complaint, Paudyal maintained that he had not abused his authority.
“I am an honest person. I haven’t abused power. My daughter was selected for the scholarship based on her caliber,” he maintained.
The government recommended Paudyal for the Canada job on October 20. His term as the foreign secretary is ending on December 6.
President Ram Chandra Poudel will now appoint Paudyal as Nepal’s ambassador to Canada.
