KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has urged teachers to immediately engage in dialogue and return to schools, stating that the state will address demands that are feasible and within the country’s financial capacity.
Inaugurating the 11th National Conference of the Nepal Progressive Professors’ Association in Kirtipur on Monday, Oli said that the current government is democratic, not oppressive, and will address the legitimate demands of professionals.
“The School Education Bill is under consideration in the parliamentary committee. Teachers do not need to take to the streets to demand the passage of this law. The student enrollment campaign has already started. Please go to schools and facilitate enrollment. Check the SEE answer sheets,” Oli said. “Don’t take offense at my statement that 52% of students failed the SEE. Work toward quality education.”
The Prime Minister also said that the teachers’ protests were causing losses to students and parents. “There is no benefit for teachers in this. Therefore, I request you to end the protests and sit for talks immediately,” Oli said. “This is not the right time for protests when regressive elements are stirring unrest.”
