KATHMANDU: Minister for Finance Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat has stated that the government will make its viewpoint on the ownership transfer of NCell public only after studying the deal.
Speaking at a press meeting organized in Nawalpur on Tuesday, Dr. Mahat said concerned state agencies are gathering information about the ownership transfer deal. “The government will form its viewpoint on the basis of the study conducted by these agencies,” Dr. Mahat said.
He also mentioned that officials from the Nepal Telecommunications Authority, the Department of Revenue Investigation, and the Inland Revenue Department were studying the deal.
“As per the existing provisions, pre-approval from the regulating agency has to be sought before selling shares. We have heard that the ownership transfer was done outside the country,” Dr. Mahat said. “We will make appropriate decisions as per our existing laws.”
Dr. Mahat highlighted that the main point of concern was why the transaction value was much lower than the real value.
