Govt preparing to repatriate bodies of train accident victims: MoFA

KATHMANDU: The government has said that it was making preparation to repatriate the bodies of seven Nepalis who died in a train accident in Maharashtra state of India on Wednesday evening.

Issuing a statement on Friday, the ministry said needful efforts were also being made to ensure prompt medical treatment for the injured. “The Government of Nepal, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is coordinating with the Embassy of Nepali in New Delhi and the Embassy of India in Kathmandu to facilitate the repatriation of the deceased and ensure swift medical care for the injured,” the statement read.

The accident occurred on Wednesday evening in Jalgaon, Maharashtra, when passengers of the Pushpak Express train, traveling from Lucknow to Mumbai, pulled the emergency brake and stopped the train after rumors spread that the train had caught fire. As passengers hurriedly disembarked, the Karnataka Express train approaching on the adjoining track struck the passengers.

The deceased have been identified as Kamala Bhandari (43) and Lacchiram Pasi (40) of Kailali, Himu Nandaram Bishwakarma (11), Nandaram Bishwakarma (44), Maisara Bishwakarma (42) and Kala Kami (60) of Achham and Radheshyam Radh (32) of Banke.
