Govt launches portal to collect suggestions on budget

KATHMANDU: The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers has launched a “Suggestion Collection Portal” to ensure direct public participation in the process of formulating the policy and program, and budget for the upcoming fiscal year.

The government introduced the digital platform to make governance more transparent and people-oriented by incorporating real needs and genuine expectations of the people into the policy and program, and the budget.

The government is introducing its policy and program in parliament on Monday. Likewise, it is scheduled to present the fiscal budget on May 28.

Through the portal, Nepalis at home and abroad, subject experts, and policymakers will be able to submit their opinions and suggestions regarding budget preparation and development priorities directly to the government.

According to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, the initiative has been taken in line with the Prime Minister’s vision of not limiting policymaking to administrative circles alone, but also valuing public sentiment and expertise.

The portal is expected to bridge the gap between citizens and the state, establish a new practice of good governance, and ensure that the suggestions received are seriously reviewed at the administrative level and implemented at the policy level.

People will also be able to track the status of their suggestions and the actions taken by the government through the portal.
