KATHMANDU: The government has decided to extend the term of a probe commission investigating the Yeti Airlines crash by 45 days.
A cabinet meeting held on Tuesday took a decision to this end, according to government spokesperson Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Rekha Sharma.
A five-member team led by former government secretary Nagendra Ghimire is investigating the plane crash in Pokhara on January 15. It was initially given a 45-day term. The commission has been tasked with the responsibility of finding out the reasons behind the accident and recommending measures to avoid such accidents in the future.
It has already published its preliminary report.
The commission consists of aviation experts Deepak Prakash Bastol and Sunil Thapa and Engineer Ekraj Jung Thapa. The joint secretary at the tourism ministry, Buddhi Sagar Lamichhane, is the member secretary of the commission.
All 72 passengers, including four crew members, died is the deadliest accident involving a domestic carrier in Nepal. It was also the deadliest crash involving an ATR-72 aircraft.
