Govt actively involved in rescue, relief works: Minister Lekhak Ramesh Lekhak

KATHMANDU: Minister for Home Affairs, Ramesh Lekhak, has said that the government is seriously engaged in the rescue, relief and medical treatment of those affected by natural disasters such as floods and landslides caused by continuous rainfall since Thursday afternoon.

Speaking to journalists after a meeting of the Monsoon Preparedness and Response Command Post held at the home ministry on Saturday, Lekhak said Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force have successfully rescued over 750 individuals trapped in floods, landslides and inundation in the Kathmandu Valley alone.

“Two people have also been rescued by a Nepali Army helicopter and moved to safety,” Minister Lekhak said. “The country is facing a severe disaster situation.”

Lekhak added that the meeting discussed various topics, including gathering information on the loss of lives and property due to floods, landslides, and inundation across the country and making rescue and relief efforts more effective.

“There has been a significant loss of lives and property; I offer my condolences to those who have lost their lives,” he said, “The government has already actively moved forward with rescue and relief efforts.”
