Gandaki Province Assembly member Gurung quits Unified Socialist

KATHMANDU: Gandaki Province Assembly member Rajiv Gurung, also known as Deepak Manange, has announced his departure from the CPN (Unified Socialist).

Gurung formally informed Gandaki Province Assembly Secretary Hari Raj Pokharel on Sunday of his decision to leave the party.

Gurung was elected to the provincial assembly as an independent candidate, but later Gurung joined the Unified Socialist.

“I was elected as an independent candidate. I request the province assembly secretariat to maintain my status as an independent member,” Gurung stated in his letter to the provincial assembly secretariat.

Gurung also said frequent changes in coalitions at the center were causing political instability in the country. “I am committed to preventing such occurrences in Gandaki Province,” he added. “Since the new coalition lacks the majority to form a government, the provincial assembly could be headed for mid-term polls. I will exert every effort to avoid this scenario.”
