Gandaki Chief Minister to seek trust vote on Monday Gandaki Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey

POKHARA: Gandaki Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey is scheduled to seek a vote of confidence on June 1o.

Pandey, who was appointed Chief Minister of the province for a second term on May 29 following a Supreme Court order needs the support of 31 members in the 60-member province assembly. The Supreme Court declared a government under his predecessor Khaga Raj Adhikari, who had secured the support of only 30 members, and reinstated Pandey to the position.

His party, Nepali Congress, has 27 seats in the province assembly. Pandey is counting on the support of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) which has two members in the province assembly. Likewise, he is also expected to get the backing of independent member Rajiv Gurung aka Deepak Manange. However, it won’t be sufficient to reach the magic number of 31 as the center’s ruling alliance of CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) is unlikely to give him their trust vote.

The Chief Minister has registered a motion for the vote of confidence at the Gandaki Province Assembly Secretariat as per Rule 150 of the Gandaki Province Assembly Regulations, 2023.
