KATHMANDU: French hospitality group Accor is entering Nepal by signing its first Mercure property in Kathmandu.
The company has signed an agreement with Metropolitan Hotel Pvt Ltd which is developing a 105-room five star hotel in Sukedhara, Kathmandu. The Metropolitan Hotel Pvt Ltd is promoted by Desh Bandhu Basnet, Bijaya B Malla, and Rajendra Raut.
Accor will manage and promote the hotel as Mercure Kathmandu. The hotel is set to open in 2006.
According to Accor, The Mercure Kathmandu will feature dining options, including an all-day dining restaurant and bar, a fitness center, an indoor pool, and state-of-the-art meeting facilities. The hotel is a short distance from the airport and is close to the city center and World Heritage Sites such as the Swayambhunath Stupa and the Pashupatinath temple.
Commenting on the agreement, Puneet Dhawan, Senior Vice President of Operations for Accor India and South Asia, said: “We are delighted to sign the first Mercure hotel in Nepal and look forward to unveiling the one-of-a-kind hotel to our loyal fans. Mercure is one of the world’s most iconic midscale brands and while each hotel is unique, they all share the same passion for high-quality services. We are sure that Mercure Kathmandu will offer incredible experiences to our guests.”
Accor has 56 properties in India and South Asia across various brands like Raffles, Fairmont, Sofitel, Pullman, Grand Mercure, Novotel, Mercure, ibis and ibis Sytles.
Similarly, Desh Bandhu Basnet, Chairman of Metropolitan Hotel Ltd, said: “We are excited to enter this partnership with Accor and pleased to introduce the world-class Mercure brand to Nepal with the signing of Mercure Kathmandu.”
