Four National Assembly committees elect chairpersons

KATHMANDU: Chairpersons of four thematic committees of the National Assembly were elected on Tuesday.

All four committees elected their chairpersons unanimously based on an inter-party consensus reached on Sunday. As per the consensus, CPN-UML’s Lila Kumari Bhandari was elected as the Vice Chairperson of the upper house on Monday.

Pooja Chaudhary of UML has been elected as the chairperson of the Public Policy and Delegated Legislation Committee, Jayanti Devi Rai of Nepali Communist Party as Chairperson of the Federalism Enablement and National Concerns Committee.

Krishna Prasad Paudel of Nepali Congress (NC) as the Chairperson of the Development, Economic Affairs and Good Governance Committee, and Krishna Bahadur Rokaya of the NC as the Chairperson of the Legislation Management Committee.

The positions had remained vacant since one-third of the National Assembly members completed their six-year term on March 4.
