Former Vice President’s son arrested in gold smuggling investigation

KATHMANDU: Police have arrested Dipesh Pun for an investigation into gold smuggling via Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).

A team deputed by the Nepal Police headquarters arrested Pun from Dhapasi, according to the personal secretariat of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Rabi Lamichhane.

The police swung into action right after the cabinet decided to implement recommendations made by a high-level commission formed to investigate gold smuggling.

Pun is the son of former Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun. He is also the general secretary of the student wing of the ruling CPN (Maoist Center).

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CIB) of Nepal Police had taken a statement from Pun on September 5 last year.
