Former minister of state Raya killed using sharp weapon: Police

KATHMANDU: Former Minister of State for Land Reforms and Management Ram Chandra Raya has been found dead at his home in Chandrangar Rural Municipality-1 of Sarlahi. Police say Raya was killed using a sharp weapon.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that Raya was murdered at midnight in the bedroom of his single-story house. It appears he was killed by a sharp weapon strike to the left side of his head,” DSP Deepak Shrestha of the District Police Office, Sarlahi, told Himal Press over the phone. “We found the body on the bed.”

According to police, Raya (80) came to his home on Sunday evening. Raya, a Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) leader, was not active in politics lately.

DSP Shrestha said that the investigation into the incident is ongoing. “We reached Raya’s home as soon as we received information about the incident. A search operation for the suspects is underway,” he added.

Police have arrested Raya’s domestic help, who was sleeping in the same building, for investigation.
