KATHMANDU: Minister for Foreign Affairs, NP Saud, will represent Nepal in the coronation of King Charles III of the United Kingdom.
Minister Saud will leave for London on May 4 and return on May 9.
The government had earlier prepared for the Head of the State level’s representation in the coronation. However, it decided to send Minister Saud instead due to President Ramchandra Poudel’s poor health condition.
Britain is Nepal’s oldest friend. There have been several high-level visits between the two countries. The British royals have participated in lavish hunting expeditions in Nepal’s Tarai.
Late King Birendra visited Britain twice – in 1980 and 1995. His father Late Mahendra also visited Britain in 1960. Nepal’s first two presidents – Dr Ram Baran Yadav and Bidya Devi Bhandari – didn’t get the opportunity to visit Britain.
