KATHMANDU: Floods and landslides triggered by incessant rain since Thursday afternoon have damaged 11 hydropower projects with a total capacity of 625.96 MW.
Speaking at a press meet in Kathmandu on Sunday, Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Deepak Khadka, said the damage to the energy sector has been estimated at Rs 2.45 billion. “Most of the power plants have halted production as a precautionary measure,” he said. “Fifteen under-construction projects have also sustained damages.”
Likewise, damage to irrigation projects and river control structures has been estimated at Rs 1.35 billion, according to
Sarita Dawadi, the secretary at the ministry.
