Five killed in Sunsari, Siraha protests declared martyrs

KATHMANDU: The government has decided to declare five people who died during protests in Sunsari and Siraha as martyrs.

A Cabinet meeting held at Singha Durbar on Tuesday decided to confer martyr status on Om Prakash Mehta, Jai Prakash Mehta and Rabindra Kumar Mehta of Sunsari, and Ganesh Kumar Yadav of Siraha.

The meeting also decided to fully waive the clean infrastructure investment fee and value-added tax (VAT) imposed on electric ambulances and hearses.

Similarly, the cabinet decided to give the Portuguese government consent to open a consular office in Kathmandu.

The cabinet also decided to appoint Nirmal Kumar Upreti of Bara as executive director of the Foreign Employment Board.

The meeting further decided to make public the Study and Investigation Report on the Purchase and Sale of Ncell Shares, 2023, prepared by a committee headed by former Auditor General Tankamani Sharma Dangal.
